Wire Gauges
An overview of wire gauges, what they mean, and which ones we as a team use
The gauge of a wire indicates its diameter and thus its current carrying capacity. There are multiple scales which are used, but we (and most things if you are located in America) use AWG (American wire gauge). A wire's gauge can be found printed on its side.
4 Gauge - this is the thickest battery wire we use
6 Gauge - also battery wire, this is what we use most
10 Gauge - typical motor power wire gauge
12 Gauge - smaller motor power wire gauge (10 is ideal)
18 Gauge - small power wires (for sensors or lights, for example)
22 Gauge - CAN bus wires and REV sensor wire
